Ingredients needed for ham and cheese sliders.

Ham and Cheese Slider Recipe Ingredients

  • Deli rolls: Preferably use a slab of rolls (that’s still kept intact) for ease of preparation.
  • Yellow mustard and dijon mustard: Using a blend of the two mustards creates a flavor profile that isn’t overpowering. However if you prefer one over the other you can just use 2 Tbsp of one type.
  • Mayonnaise: Mayo will help balance the acidty of the vinegar in the mustards and add some rich creaminess.
  • Honey: This just adds a light sweetness to the sandwich spread.
  • Deli ham: I recommend black forest deli ham, though leftover spiral sliced ham will work well too.
  • Swiss cheese: Use sliced or shredded Swiss from a block or from the deli.
  • Butter: Salted or unsalted butter can be used.
  • Poppy seeds and sesame seeds: Using this blend of seeds gives them that everything bagel seasoning touch and adds a faint light crunch to finish.
  • Dried minced onion and garlic powder: These add nice light seasoning to the mini sandwiches.
  • Worcestershire sauce: This is a traditional seasoning for these sliders that adds light flavor, but if you don’t have any on hand you can omit it and they’ll still be delicious.

Possible Variations

  • Ham roast: You can also use leftover spiral sliced ham in place of deli ham.
  • Cheese: Other types of cheese to use for ham sliders include cheddar cheese, provolone, Monterey Jack, Colby Jack, gouda, fontina, or muenster.
  • Seasoning: Use a no-salt everything bagel seasoning in place of the seasonings used here. Or replace the sesame seeds with more poppy seeds if preferred.
  • Hawaiian dinner rolls: These can also be used for this recipe if you want a slightly sweet roll.

Can They Be Made Ahead?

These sandwiches can also be made ahead and baked later, or baked then reheated. Here’s how to do it:

  • Make ahead: Prepare the sandwiches and refrigerate up to 1 day before baking. Increase bake time by about 10 minutes or as needed.
  • Freezer instructions: Prepare as directed and freeze up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge before heating, increase bake time by about 10 minutes.
  • Reheat: Rewarm already baked and chilled sandwiches in a 350 degree oven in a baking dish until warmed through.
